Sunday

A walk around our own neighborhood and another visit to the V&A

Sunday is a day we've learned to try not to do anything too "public"- the crowds are amazing on the weekends. So, we decided to walk in our own neighborhood. We started out at Kensington High Street, and wandered among the wonderful old streets where people like Henry James and Robert Browning lived. They liked to be near Kensington Park and the streets look very much like they always have. We wandered through Thackeray Street, and then past where Thackeray lived. Then we moved on to our own street - Kensington Church Street - at the bottom is St. Mary Abbott's Church - the tallest spire in London, and where TS Eliot was married and a member of the parish. We thoroughly enjoyed this walk - and came out right by our apartment - past so many lovely houses and streets and many, many antique shops.

Then, a brief rest, and I was ready to head off on my own to the V&A again. This time, I was meeting Joan Mills, Amy Mitten, Janice Spencer, Sandy Gaponow and Susan Carpenter for a visit in the Leonardo exhibit. They had all arrived in London either Saturday or Sunday, and we met up for the exhibit and then dinner!

The exhibit was amazing - really a wonderful display and so artfully done. They had what seemed like 6 or 7 Codexes (codices?) with the distinctive mirror-image backward writing and detailed diagrams... Just brilliant!

Then we were off looking for a spot for dinner. We asked a guard where we should go for good fish and chips, but he was going to send us to Greenwich, which was a bit further than we wanted, so we just walked about a bit to find a restaurant and ended up in a Thai restaurant. Most of us weren't too sure what to order so we let Amy order for us - she did a masterful job and dinner was delicious!

Then we headed off to our diverse hotels/flats and bid adieu for a few days.
